You need a WhatsApp exchange for a post. Change the names, add the messages, download the image. Done.

FakeDetail can do that. It has a lot of tools, and its homepage says they’re free, require no account, and export without a watermark. That deserves credit. FakeDetail’s product page.

The interesting question is what happens when that one screenshot turns into five. Or your client comes back next Tuesday with a different idea.

FakeDetail gives you plenty to start with.

Its catalog includes chats, social posts, profiles, call screens, and group conversations. Many have iPhone and Android styles. It also advertises chat recording for WhatsApp and Instagram, with typing and message animations. If you want that kind of video, look at those tools.

Saved Settings and chats can keep your work in the same browser. The WhatsApp editor explicitly says clearing the browser cache removes saved chats. That’s different from a project saved to an online account. FakeDetail’s WhatsApp editor.

Your starting point can be an actual website.

A Slack conversation. A LinkedIn post. An email. That weird dashboard your customer uses that absolutely nobody has made a template for.

With TextPuppet’s Chrome extension, you can change text, replace images, hide elements, and blur a region on the page. Import the visible page into Studio to keep editing the captured mockup.

Our template library grows with the websites you can import. There are 11 built-in layouts when you want a head start. Website imports give you an open-ended supply of additional starting points.

Imports are static captures with editable regions. They don’t rebuild a working website, and off-screen content or protected browser pages can be missed.

Save the project. Keep the edits.

You changed the cast, uploaded photos, and got the wording right. Save that project to your TextPuppet account. Open it later and keep going.

Maybe the punchline changes. Maybe the client decides the scene should be an email instead. At least you’re starting from the work you already did.

TextPuppet also includes an API and MCP connection on every active plan and trial. Describe a native mockup to a compatible assistant, supply your images, revise it, and export. Or generate it from your own application.

What are you paying for?

FakeDetail advertises free access. TextPuppet is $6/month, $30/year, or $100 once for lifetime access. Every active plan includes Studio, the extension, imports, API, and MCP. Eligible new monthly and annual accounts get a three-day trial with a card upfront. TextPuppet pricing.

You’re paying for the combined workflow: native layouts, real webpages, saved account projects, and automation.

TextPuppet exports PNG, PDF carousels, and editable project JSON. It doesn’t currently offer native animated chat video exports. FakeDetail’s advertised video tools are a reason to consider it.

If a free generator already covers the screenshot you need, try FakeDetail. If you want to edit a specific webpage, save an editable project online, or work through your assistant or API, take a look at TextPuppet.

The first screenshot is easy to think about. The next round of edits is where the workflow starts to matter.
